Pregnancy and Chiropractic

Pregnancy is a beautiful experience that reminds us how smart our body is and the capability it has to overcome the many obstacles it goes through. During pregnancy there are many cellular and physical changes that your body goes through. To maintain the capability that your body has, it is very important for the mother to get her nervous system checked.

Throughout the pregnancy, the mother goes through many changes and some that might cause discomfort to the body. As your baby becomes heavier, your center of gravity shifts, and your posture tries to adjust accordingly. The increase in the changes may cause stress to the mother, as well as the baby. The mother can develop misalignments causing unbalancing of the body and resulting in discomfort. Specifically, a pelvis that is out of alignment can cause restriction in the amount of space available to your developing baby. It can make it difficult for your baby to move around into the best position he or she is comfortable in. If your baby is in a birthing position that is non-optimal, it can lead to a longer and more complicated delivery.

With chiropractic care during pregnancy, the body is checked for subluxations. A subluxation is a misalignment in the body.  When a subluxation is corrected, there are positive effects that align the body and result in proper functioning of the nervous system. Dr. Larry Webster, who is the founder of Webster Technique, uses specific findings to adjust the pregnant mommy. Many patients have reported that the positioning of their baby has gotten better compared to the time before their chiropractic care. With this feedback, the technique is still used today to allow for proper functioning of the pelvis and the rest of the body. The adjustments make room within the pelvis and allows for the baby to have more space and be more comfortable. This eventually leads into a safer and easier birth. Overall, getting adjusted regularly will help you maintain a healthier, less stressful and a more comfortable pregnancy.
